Bike drivers get free umbrellas in Davao City

Lawyer Karlo Nograles distributes umbrellas on Monday, June 15, 2009 to bicycle taxi drivers popularly called "trisikad" in Davao City in the southern Philippines. The young lawyer is the son and chief of staff of House Speaker Prospero Nograles.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines - House Speaker Prospero Nograles donated umbrellas Monday to dozens of bicycle taxi drivers in Davao City in the southern Philippines.

The donation came after the drivers sought Nograles' assistance to protect them and their passengers from the heat of the sun and the cold rain water. The drivers are residents of the village called Barangay 76-A in Bucana.

Nograles' son and chief of staff, lawyer Karlo Nograles, personally handed over the umbrellas to the 40 drivers, who expressed gratitude to the solon.

The young Nograles said the solon would also be visiting different villages in the city's 1st Congressional District to distribute more umbrellas to other groups.
