Solon calls for probe amid Cebu Pacific's 'shabby' passenger treatment

AFP News - A Cebu Pacific Airbus A320 plane sits on the grassy part of the runway (R) at the international airport in Davao city, on southern island of Mindanao, on June 3, 2013, after it overshot the runway during a rainstorm.

What went wrong?

Well, apart from the runway accident, a lawmaker believes the airline crew of Cebu Pacific was wrong when they panicked as the plane carrying 165 passengers overshot the runway in Davao City Sunday....

House assistant majority leader and Davao City First District Congressman Karlo Nograles (ext. right) attends the University of Southeastern Philippines graduation ceremonies Tuesday at the USEP-Nograles Sports and Cultural Center. A total of 27 Nograles Scholars graduated with honors.

At least 31 beneficiaries of the Nograles Scholarship are graduating with honors from the top Davao City schools this summer....

PREMATURE CAMPAIGN. Election posters of former Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan started to proliferate this week, more than 2 weeks ahead of the local election campaign period but the Nograles camp said it is not about to file a complaint.

Nograles named as among 20 Outstanding Congressmen

SUPERBRANDS, a prestigious international branding and polling outfit, has named Representative Karlo B. Nograles (first district, Davao City) as one of the 20 Most Outstanding Congressmen in the 15th Congress.

He is one of the two elected congressmen from Mindanao who made it to the elite circle. The other lawmaker who made it to the list is Representative Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro City. Nograles and Rodriguez are both lawyers.

Also in the list are House Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III, House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales and party-list representative Arnel Ty.

Nograles and the other awardees will be formally honored in a luncheon on February 6 at the Mandarin Oriental Manila Hotel in Makati City....

Karlo leads relief ops

HOUSE assistant majority leader, Davao City Representative Karlo B. Nograles, has gone full-time in leading relief operations, personally bringing help to flood-devastated areas in Davao City's first district every day since Sunday.

The First District Congressional Office said that Nograles and his relief team has fully covered the flood-hit areas of the central district after daily round-the-clock operations since Sunday when the Davao river overflowed and badly affected at least 15 barangays in the city.

On Sunday, when the river currents went wild and breached the banks, Nograles decided to see for himself the devastation and, at the same time, lead the distribution of relief goods to affected residents....

House leaders see passage of RH bill before Christmas

MANILA, Philippines—Are congressmen opposed to the reproductive health bill headed for defeat or are their pro-RH colleagues in for a big surprise?

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte said he was "cautiously confident" that House Bill No. 4244 would be passed before the Christmas break, with voting on second reading possibly happening as early as Monday.

Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, principal author of the bill, said the defeat of amendments proposed by anti-RH lawmakers was indicative of the outcome of the measure in the chamber....

A group of congressmen yesterday said that while the human-rights situation in the Philippines was not as bad as it was being projected in the international community, President Aquino’s decision to create a superbody to take the lead in promoting human rights and investigating allegations of extrajudicial killings should erase all doubts on the government’s resolve to end all forms of human rights abuses.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles said Aquino's Administrative Order 35 which created an inter-agency committee to investigate the old and new cases of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and other grave human-rights violations should provide more teeth in the government’s campaign against abuses....

Lawmaker calls for full audit of BuCor inmates

Claiming penal centers have become safe haven for criminals, House assistant majority leader and Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles yesterday called for a nationwide audit of all prisoners in all penal centers in the country that are under the supervision and control of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

This even as he expressed suspicion that the grenade blast inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) is just a tip of the iceberg of large-scale criminal activities within the country’s penal facilities.

Nograles said Justice Secretary Laila de Lima’s findings that the grenade explosion inside a maximum security facility in the NBP compound may have been caused by a drug war among rival gangs inside the country’s prime penal center....

WALANG pagdadalawang-isip sa kanyang naging desisyon si Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles na tumakbong muli sa pagka-kongresista sa darating na 2013 elections.

At naniniwala si Nograles, anak ni dating House Speaker Prospero Nograles, na ang mga nagawa niya para sa syudad ng Davao sa una pa lamang niyang pag-upo noong 2010 ang siyang kanyang magiging sandigan para maitawid ang reelection bid sa darating na halalan sa Mayo.

Tiwala rin ang nakababatang Nograles na nararamdaman at nakikita ng kanyang mga kadistrito ang mga programang kanyang isinulong nitong nalipas na halos tatlong taon.

"Being the one in active service, tayo ang nakikita ng taumbayan na aktibong nagtatrabaho at sumeserbisyo," ani Nograles nang kapanayamin ng Inquirer Bandera kamakailan sa Davao....
